Mince and Cheese Pie (Classic Aussie Style)

The Mince and Cheese Pie is a comforting, cheesy take on the beloved Aussie meat pie. With a savoury beef filling and molten cheese inside flaky pastry, it’s a bakery favourite across Australia and New Zealand — perfect for lunch on the go or a hearty family dinner.

Ingredients:

  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • ¾ cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)

Instructions:

  1. In a pan, sauté onion and garlic until soft. Add beef and brown well.
  2. Stir in flour, then tomato paste, stock, Worcestershire, and seasoning.
  3. Simmer until thickened (~10 mins), then cool slightly.
  4. Cut pastry to fit pie tins. Fill with mince, sprinkle cheese on top. Cover with pastry lid.
  5. Crimp edges, brush with egg, and bake at 200°C for 20–25 minutes or until golden.
