The Mince and Cheese Pie is a comforting, cheesy take on the beloved Aussie meat pie. With a savoury beef filling and molten cheese inside flaky pastry, it’s a bakery favourite across Australia and New Zealand — perfect for lunch on the go or a hearty family dinner.
Ingredients:
- 500g beef mince
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 cup beef stock
- ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & pepper to taste
- ¾ cup grated cheddar cheese
- 2 sheets puff pastry
- 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)
Instructions:
- In a pan, sauté onion and garlic until soft. Add beef and brown well.
- Stir in flour, then tomato paste, stock, Worcestershire, and seasoning.
- Simmer until thickened (~10 mins), then cool slightly.
- Cut pastry to fit pie tins. Fill with mince, sprinkle cheese on top. Cover with pastry lid.
- Crimp edges, brush with egg, and bake at 200°C for 20–25 minutes or until golden.
